July Newsletter

July is here! It’s the month we’ve been yearning for, the month of Stampede, sunny weather and summer break for the kiddos. This month, Calgary comes alive! I love the energy of this city during stampede week; people are excited, kids are energized and the hospitality skyrockets. It’s such a great tourism boost to our amazing province and is a wonderful way for us to be recognized.

Did you know Guy Weadick ran the first Calgary Stampede in 1912? A second Stampede was not held in 1913 in Calgary. Weadick took his show on the road to Winnipeg. But economic downturn hit Western Canada and dimmed the prospects for holding another one in 1914. Then, in August 1914, the First World War broke out. The history of this iconic show highlights Calgary’s perseverance, spirit and energy to celebrate and have fun.

Head on over to the grounds, enjoy some pancake breakfasts and see Calgary at its best!

Here’s to a wonderful month…

Cheers,

Oversupply is slowing, but a buyers’ market remains Jun. 2019 City of Calgary, July 2 2019 – New listings coming onto the market continued to decline in June, which is helping to reduce the oversupply of homes in Calgary. Year-over-year, new listings saw a decrease of nearly 19 per cent. Sales activity slowed this month compared to last year by six per cent, but the pullback in new listings was enough to cause inventories to fall by 15 per cent compared to last year’s elevated levels. “So far, the housing market has generally behaved as expected this year. Sales activity remains just below last year’s levels, prices have eased and supply is starting to adjust to the lower level of sales,” said CREB® chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie. “However, it is mostly product priced under $500,000 that is trending towards more balanced conditions.” While the market still favours the buyer – with 4.2 months of supply – the amount of oversupply has eased and is slowing the decline in prices. As of June, the benchmark price in the city was $425,700, nearly four per cent below last year’s levels and comparable to unadjusted prices recorded last month.

What does this mean for you as a future buyer or seller in Calgary? Drop me a line, I’d love to help.
