Happy Fall and Happy Thanksgiving…

Man, have we been spoiled this year with such a beautiful autumn season! I love this time of year. Sure, it’s a changing of seasons and a gradual adjustment to the colder months ahead, but it’s also the season of letting go, giving thanks and transformation.

It’s also a great time to consider buying or selling if you’ve been on the fence this summer. Activity is picking up, and 2020 has been the best year yet for our brokerage, Charles. Listing in the fall is beneficial for many reasons: more serious buyers are in the market place and inventory levels tend to decrease leading into the holidays. More interested buyers + low inventory = less time for buyers to be on the fence.

City of Calgary, October, 2020 – 
Home sales rise along with supply.⁠ September sales activity jumped to 1,702 units, the strongest September total since 2014.⁠

New listings in September improved over last month, but levels remained comparable to the previous year. The increase in sales relative to new listings did prevent any monthly gains in inventory levels, but supply in the market is still down 12% compared to last year.⁠

How to celebrate Halloween safely this year:

• Have a Halloween party at home. Decorate to the hilt and let kids stay up to watch a Halloween movie with some special treats.

• Carve pumpkins and roast the seeds!

• Try alternatives to trick-or-treating, such as a glow-in-the-dark egg hunt, hanging packages of candy on a tree or fence to be “picked,” or setting up a table in the front yard laden with individual cups filled with candy for trick-or-treaters to take.

• Participate in an outdoor Halloween parade and show off your costume.

• “Boo” someone! Leave a bag of treats or a pumpkin on a friend’s doorstep, ring the bell & run.

• Set up a Halloween scavenger hunt in and around your house for the people in your household.

• Watch a scary movie. There are plenty of Halloween movies that will get you right in the spirit. If the weather permits, set it up in your backyard.

• Plan a special evening looking at the full moon. The last time there was one on Oct. 31 was 2001.

• Set up a costume parade.

• Use Zoom to have a virtual party with friends.

• Attend one of several drive-in events around Calgary.

• Save the pumpkin carving for Halloween night so you have another activity to look forward to.

• Enjoy some other fall activities that day and evening, like an outdoor corn maze or apple picking.
